Five ways to stop reaching for your glasses.
Which one suits you depends on your prescription, the shape of your cornea and your age. The scan tells us; this is roughly where each one fits.

LASIK
A thin flap is lifted from the cornea, the laser reshapes the tissue underneath, and the flap settles back. The most-studied laser treatment there is, with the quickest visual recovery.

18 to 55

SMILE
No flap. The laser shapes a tiny disc of tissue inside the cornea and removes it through a 2 mm opening. A good fit for contact sports and for people with drier eyes.

Age
21 to 50
Time in theatre

ICL lens implant
For prescriptions too strong or corneas too thin for laser. A soft lens sits behind the iris and in front of your natural lens. Nobody can see it, and it can be removed.
Prescription
−12.00 to −3.00
Age
21 to 45
Time in theatre
20 minutes per eye

Lens replacement
Past 50, the natural lens stiffens and reading glasses arrive. Replacing it with a multifocal lens corrects distance and reading together, and you will never develop a cataract.

Any, including reading
Age
50 and over

Cataract
A clouded lens is replaced with a clear one, and your prescription can be corrected at the same time. Most insurers cover it; we handle the paperwork with them.

Corrected during surgery

Your treatment day, start to finish.
Laser treatment takes a morning. Bring someone to drive you home, and plan a quiet evening with your eyes closed.
Arrive and re-scan
We map both corneas again so the laser works from this morning’s measurements, not last month’s.
Drops and a talk-through
Numbing drops, and your surgeon explains what you’ll see and hear. There are no injections.
Treatment
About six minutes per eye. You look at a small green light while the laser works for under thirty seconds.
Rest and first check
Vision is misty, like opening your eyes underwater. We check the flap or incision before you leave.
Home
Eye shields, drops, and sleep. Most people nap the afternoon away.
Morning check-up
Most patients meet the legal driving standard here and drive themselves in.
The surgeon at your scan is the surgeon at your treatment.
No hand-offs. You meet them before you decide, and they see you at every check-up afterwards.

Questions people ask at the scan.
Does it hurt?
No. The drops numb the eye completely. You feel light pressure for a few seconds, and the evening after can feel gritty, like tired contact lenses.
Will my eyes change again later?
Laser treatment is permanent, but eyes still age. Around 45 to 50 most people need reading glasses for small print, whether or not they had surgery.
What if I need a touch-up?
About 3 in 100 patients do. Re-treatment within twelve months is included in your price.
When can I drive, work and exercise?
Most people drive and work from the next day after LASIK. Gym after a week, swimming and contact sports after a month.
Can I have both eyes done on the same day?
Yes, for laser treatments and ICL. Lens replacement and cataract surgery are done one eye at a time, about a week apart.
